Flynt

Fast Paced Indie-Pop Music Video

Music videos are where we came from. And we’ve been shooting with FLYNT since their day one, so this was a great project to grab with both hands. With a quick turnaround and only one single day shoot available; we created a simple setup in the band’s hometown village hall using different colour temperatures and Portman lighting fixtures to make the visuals heighten the ebb and flow of FLYNT’s heavy track “Sweet Nothing’.

Flares, lens dirt and bloom are all part of the vintage look requested by FLYNT. Keeping an old school sensibility without ageing the video’s more modern visual appeal.

Lead singer Emma’s infectious energy and hair flicks drive the focus of the shots and the cut. With under cranked 8fps cutaways that add to the jarring choppiness of the cuts and transitions.

How we do it

    THE BRIEF

    THE BRIEF

Music videos comes in all flavours. Heavily briefed, performance based, or blank page. And with this, the band made it clear that they wanted a convetional based performance-based video in a place close to their origins. But as with every project, we wanted to add something that could heighten the punch of their heavy track. Timing and programming the background fixtures with their song in advance was one element that made the drums and drops smack even harder.

    THE VISUALS

    THE VISUALS

For this video in-particular, the visuals lived in a world of ‘steely blues’, and warm white tones.

With the energy of the video being high, the blue tones bring that electric and fast-paced feel.

The vision needed to have a strong presence throughout, to propel the viewer into the scene.

    THE LOOK

    THE LOOK

In post-production, the team spent time on nailing the grade, making sure everything on screen hit that vintage-film look, allowing the audience to depict a sense of nostalgia.

We pumped up the saturation of the blues, winded down our contrast and really dialled up the highlights, focusing on the warm tones. We also boosted the grade by added in some noise to give it that gritty, grainy effect.
